~~After weeks of anticipation, University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park campus student Stephanie McCracken was “shocked and honored” to receive official word from Southern Miss President Rodney D. Bennett that she was selected as a 2014 Truman Scholar. McCracken is the only recipient chosen from a Mississippi institution.
The University of Southern Mississippi Premedical and Health Professions Office, housed in the College of Science and Technology Dean’s Office, recently hosted faculty from the University of Mississippi Medical Center’s Dental Hygiene program who presented information on the program to students.
The Southern Miss Gulf Coast Civic Chorale will perform, “Groovy Peace, Baby!” at two concerts in the Fleming Education Center auditorium at The University of Southern Mississippi’s Gulf Park campus in Long Beach. The concerts will be held Friday, May 2 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 4 at 3 p.m.
On Wednesday, April 23, mass communication professionals from across the state will visit with students from The University of Southern Mississippi’s School of Mass Communication and Journalism from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. for Mississippi Association of Broadcasters (MAB) Day. The event will be held in the Thad Cochran Center on the Hattiesburg campus.
Elena Azadbakht, a reference librarian for health sciences at The University of Southern Mississippi, recently received the 2014 EBSCO American Library Association (ALA) Conference Sponsorship. The award provides up to $1,000 in reimbursements for expenses to attend the 2014 ALA Conference in Las Vegas June 26 – July 1.
The University of Southern Mississippi Counseling Psychology Student Government will hold the second annual Voodoo Run 5K Saturday, April 26 at Walthall Park, located at the corner of Walnut and Rebecca Avenues in downtown Hattiesburg. The event is a fundraiser for the university's Community Counseling and Assessment Clinic to help it provide mental health services to Southern Miss students and community members.
