Mississippi Home of Your Own (HOYO) will sponsor a free, one-day homebuyer education workshop on Saturday, Sept. 25 for residents with and without disabilities in Forrest, Lamar and surrounding counties.


One of the most prominent painters in South Mississippiwill present his latest work in a solo exhibit from Sept. 9-Oct. 9 in The University of Southern Mississippi Museum of Art.


The deadline is approaching to contribute to the “Kiss a Pig” contest, giving University of Southern Mississippi students, faculty and staff a chance to support a great cause while bidding for a campus leader to be chosen to kiss a live pig.


The University of Southern Mississippi Student Government Association will host a student town hall meeting from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 14 in Ballroom I of the Thad Cochran Center on the Hattiesburg campus.

Southern President Martha Saunders, SGA President Kasey Mitchell, members of the Executive Cabinet, plus University Priorities Committee chairpersons will be on hand to discuss the proposed university budget reductions for 2012.

Students will have an opportunity to ask questions and voice their concerns.


For the third consecutive year, The University of Southern Mississippi has experienced a record enrollment of freshmen students plus a record number of total students enrolled.


Retired Army Lt. Gen. Russel L. Honoré, renowned for his forceful, productive leadership during the Hurricane Katrina recovery effort, will be the guest speaker for the Issues and Answers Lecture Series presented by The Sun Herald, The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast College of Arts and Letters and the Centennial Celebration Committee on Tuesday, Sept 7.
