One hundred years and still going strong at Southern Miss.


University of Southern Mississippi officials, state and local dignitaries and students helped cut the ribbon today on Wednesday, Oct. 6 at Century Park, the university’s newest residential community.

Named in celebration of Southern Miss’ centennial, Century Park is an 864-bed, living-learning community for freshman students, including honors college and scholarship recipients. It also houses upper-class females.


One hundred years’ worth of black and gold pride is on display this week for The University of Southern Mississippi’s Centennial Homecoming Celebration.


Dr. Andrew Wiest, professor of history at The University of Southern Mississippi, has been named the Charles W. Moorman Distinguished Alumni Professor in the Humanities by the College of Arts and Letters.


The Alumni Band will perform for the first time in more than 10 years during Homecoming weekend Oct. 8-9 on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi.


Bob Hopkins, chief of police at The University of Southern Mississippi, will readily accept all the help he can get when it comes to protecting the sprawling Hattiesburg, Miss., campus.


The University of Southern Mississippi’s electronic message board at the corner of Hwy. 49 and Hardy St. has been upgraded as part of an initiative to accommodate fiber switching necessary to connect The Garden and main Southern Miss telecommunication infrastructure. The updated board is set to begin operation on Wednesday, Oct. 6.
