In the aftermath of the BP oil disaster, many are still wondering about the effects of the spill on the Gulf Coast.  

The University of Southern Mississippi and Mississippi Humanities Council will hold a conference titled “Water World: The Effects of the BP Disaster,” Friday, Nov. 19 at the Mary C. O’Keefe Cultural Center in Ocean Springs. The conference is free and open to the public.

The University of Southern Mississippi has confirmed three of its student athletes were injured in an off-campus incident shortly before 2 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 14, in Hattiesburg, Miss.

The three, all football players, were listed in fair condition as of 1 p.m. Sunday, according to a medical official.

An expert on American political thought will address a topic that scholars have debated for centuries – the role of race in American democracy.

Dr. Marek Steedman, assistant professor of political science at The University of Southern Mississippi, will present “Race and Liberty In Tocqueville’s America” at 4 p.m., Mon., Nov. 15 in Gonzales Auditorium.
