With limited resources for advertising and promotion, the United Way of Southeast Mississippi is always looking for creative ways to raise awareness and gift-giving.

To assist in that endeavor, students in Dr. Jamye Foster’s creative marketing at The University of Southern Mississippi presented some innovative strategies to United Way representative Ashley Grant as part of a spring semester project.

A memorial service for University of Southern Mississippi students, faculty and staff who passed away during the academic year will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 3 at the university’s R.C. Cook University Union, room B on the Hattiesburg campus.

Two native Mississippians with an impressive record of public service will serve as commencement speakers for The University of Southern Mississippi’s spring 2011 graduation exercises.

Ray Mabus, the current U.S. Secretary of the Navy and a former Mississippi governor, and 10^th District Chancery Court Judge Deborah Gambrell will address graduates Friday, May 13 at Reed Green Coliseum on the Hattiesburg campus at the 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. ceremonies, respectively.

The establishment of a prestigious scholarship endowment coupled with an all-time high in fundraising highlighted the Seventh Annual “Passions of the Palette” event held April 11 at the Lake Terrace Convention Center in Hattiesburg.
