Family and friends of the late Leon Eubanks came together Tuesday to honor his memory and love of nature, both of which continue blooming at his beloved Lake Thoreau in Hattiesburg, Miss.

 

Located on Thoreau Road off of West Fourth Street in Hattiesburg, the property was donated to the University Foundation in 2000 by the Eubanks family with the intention that it be utilized as a nature preserve for scientific, educational and aesthetic purposes. It is managed by the Southern Miss Department of Biological Sciences.

Sea Camp registration is in full swing accepting registrations for its 24th consecutive year as a popular marine science day camp for children ages 6-13.

 

The focus of this year’s camp is threatened and endangered marine species. Campers will learn to fish, crab, seine and sieve at The University of Southern Mississippi’s Gulf Coast Research Laboratory Marine Education Center in Ocean Springs. Registration for this year’s event closes May 13.

The Women’s Studies Program at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast hosted a day-long educational event for high school junior and senior girls interested in achieving higher education.
