Secondary school teachers from across Mississippi converged on The University of Southern Mississippi Hattiesburg campus last week for the ASM Materials Camp, an initiative of the ASM Materials Education Foundation supported by the U.S. Navy’s Office of Naval Research.

Members of The University of Southern Mississippi community are mourning the passing of Lance Logan, an undergraduate College of Business student from Vicksburg, Miss. and former vice president of the university’s Student Government Association.

 

“We all knew Lance as both an outstanding student and leader at our university, and we are saddened by this loss,” said Southern Miss Vice President for Student Affairs Dr.  Joe Paul. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time.”

A University of Southern Mississippi alumnus serving as deputy commander for the Mississippi Army National Guard’s 47th Civil Support Team (CST) returned to his alma mater this week, where the unit conducted special training exercises on its Hattiesburg campus.

 

Major Ronald Green of Jackson, who graduated from the university with undergraduate degrees in accounting and biological sciences in 1997 and 2000, respectively, joined his team as they conducted special training exercises at Wilber (Panhellenic) Hall.

Four University of Southern Mississippi students earned valuable hands-on experience in helping children and young adults with disabilities as part of a summer internship at the Institute for Disability Studies (IDS).
