LONG BEACH, Miss. -- University of Southern Mississippi officials broke ground today on restoration projects at the Gulf Park campus involving Hardy Hall and Lloyd Hall – both of which were severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina six years ago.

The University of Southern Mississippi Pride of Mississippi Marching Band presented its annual Pride Preview Concert Aug. 26 at the Centennial Green before students, faculty, staff and community members. The concert gave fans of The Pride a chance to hear it perform in advance of the upcoming football season.

 Honoring the 10th anniversary of the Sept.11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the Southern Miss Gulf Coast Civic Chorale will present “A Tribute to 9/11” on Sunday, Sept. 11, at 4 p.m. in the Fleming Education Center auditorium on The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park campus in Long Beach.

Metal artifacts from the World Trade Center twin towers that collapsed on Sept. 11, 2001 have begun the trek to Hattiesburg for inclusion in a permanent memorial planned at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Dr. Alvin Williams has dedicated more than 30 years to The University of Southern Mississippi, and while the majority of his efforts have been as a professor and administrator, he was most recently named president of its Alumni Association Executive Committee.

Joining Williams on the executive committee are President-Elect Dale Shearer of Ridgeland, Vice President Benny Waddle of Hattiesburg, Past President Randy Pope of Hattiesburg and Finance Committee Chairman Donnie Tynes of Madison.
