Dr. William “Monty” Graham has been named chairman of The University of Southern Mississippi Department of Marine Science (DMS). 

Graham, a native of Danville, Kentucky, earned his Ph.D. in biology from the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB), a master of science in marine sciences from the University of California Santa Cruz and a bachelor of science degree in marine biology from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

Are you brave, or perhaps zany, enough to traipse five kilometers around The University of Southern Mississippi campus wearing a red dress?

The Office of Student Activities sure hopes so. On Friday, Sept. 23 the university is encouraging men, women and children to participate in the first Red Dress Run, which serves as a fundraiser for the American Heart Association.

The Sertoma Club of Hattiesburg presented a check for $19,000 to the DuBard School for Language Disorders on Tuesday, Aug. 16, which represents that civic organization’s largest donation to the school thus far.

On the sixth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, the Gulf Coast Library at The University of Southern Mississippi will host a book talk and signing featuring former CNN correspondent and Bay St. Louis native, Kathleen Koch, Monday, Aug. 29, from 5-6 p.m.
