University of Southern Mississippi freshman Christopher Lapniewski is asking for the public’s help in locating a high school football state championship ring he lost today (Friday, Sept. 30) while at work.

University of Southern Mississippi Professor of Music Lois Leventhal uses an analogy to capture the excitement of seeing 10 new pianos arrive on the Hattiesburg campus: “It’s like a writer having the proper pen,” she said.

 

Thanks to a partnership with the Kawai Piano Company, the Southern Miss School of Music received the new loaner pianos that will be purchased at a substantial discount as part of a bigger effort to eventually replace all of the old pianos with new ones.

In The University of Southern Mississippi’s School of Accountancy, the numbers tell the story – more and more graduates are landing jobs with prestigious companies.

 

Graduates like Analise Counts, of Mobile, Ala., who obtained her undergraduate degree in accounting and Master of Public Accounting from Southern Miss before securing a position with PricewaterhouseCoopers. Just one month after obtaining her MPA, Counts went from student to corporate climber in the frenzied markets of New York and Los Angeles.

While many students at The University of Southern Mississippi were enjoying their summer vacations, the university’s food service, Eagle Dining, was hard at work preparing for the upcoming school year and making changes.

Dr. Andrew Haley, an associate professor of history at The University of Southern Mississippi, will give an informal talk about and autograph copies of his latest book, Turning the Tables: Restaurants and the Rise of the Middle Class, 1880-1920 Saturday, Oct. 1 beginning at 1 p.m. at The Kitchen Table, located at University Mall next to Corner Market on Hardy Street. Light refreshments will be served.

Eagle Dining, through a partnership with the Southern Miss Activities Council (SMAC), will offer the university community free cooking classes for the 2011 fall semester.

 

The cooking classes are presented in a fun and informative format, and feature delicious meals taught by Eagle Dining culinarians.

Two media production majors from The University of Southern Mississippi School of Mass Communication and Journalism were finalists in the Student Production Excellence category at the 2011 National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Southeast Emmy Awards in Atlanta.
