University of Southern Mississippi Professor of Music Lois Leventhal uses an analogy to capture the excitement of seeing 10 new pianos arrive on the Hattiesburg campus: “It’s like a writer having the proper pen,” she said.

Thanks to a partnership with the Kawai Piano Company, the Southern Miss School of Music received the new loaner pianos that will be purchased at a substantial discount as part of a bigger effort to eventually replace all of the old pianos with new ones.

University of Southern Mississippi students and faculty who need assistance with information or documentation regarding administrative services for students may contact Alfreda Horton, coordinator of the university’s new Office of Student Oriented Services.

While many students at The University of Southern Mississippi were enjoying their summer vacations, the university’s food service, Eagle Dining, was hard at work preparing for the upcoming school year and making changes.

Eagle Dining, through a partnership with the Southern Miss Activities Council (SMAC), will offer the university community free cooking classes for the 2011 fall semester.

The cooking classes are presented in a fun and informative format, and feature delicious meals taught by Eagle Dining culinarians.
