Larry Panella, director of Jazz Studies at The University of Southern Mississippi, will honor the biggest influences in his musical career, with a special concert, “Gestures in Jazz,” on Oct. 3 in Bennett Auditorium.


Mississippi Home of Your Own (HOYO) will sponsor a free, one-day homebuyer education workshop on Saturday, October 8 for residents with and without disabilities in Neshoba and surrounding counties.


“Give me that Black and Gold” is the theme for The University of Southern Mississippi’s 2011 homecoming, and the school colors will be on full display as students, faculty, staff, alumni and community supporters celebrate being a Golden Eagle throughout the week.


The University of Southern Mississippi hosted the “True South Basic Economic Development Course” Sept. 19-22 at the Trent Lott National Center on the Hattiesburg campus.  More than 34 participants from Florida, Mississippi and Alabama attended the four-day program.


Chondrea Jordan, a senior at Petal High School, never thought she would have the opportunity to get a head start on her future as a biology major while working a summer job. 


She expected to spend the summer before her senior year at a dead-end job. Instead, Jordan spent her summer working in the laboratory of Associate Professor Douglas Masterson at The University of Southern Mississippi. 


Gabrielle Alexandria Bulger of Magee, Miss. and Alexandria Taylor Gieger of Laurel, Miss.  are the 2011 recipients of the Mary Loraine Peets Buffett Scholarship at The University of Southern Mississippi.
