University of Southern Mississippi Distinguished Professor of Gifted Education Dr. Frances Karnes was honored for her service to the field of gifted education with a key to the city of Hattiesburg by Mayor Johnny DuPree during the Mississippi Association for Gifted conference, held last week in Hattiesburg.

The Paint Southern Miss Pink Committee’s goal is to bring breast cancer awareness to The University of Southern Mississippi’s Hattiesburg campus, and there are a couple ways it is planning to get students, faculty and staff involved during Breast Cancer Awareness month in October.

This leadership will once again be prominent when the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) Board of Directors presents educational sessions at a conference set for Oct. 20 at the Southern Miss Gulf Park campus in Long Beach, Miss.

The University of Southern Mississippi’s Cook Library Art Gallery, in collaboration with Southern Miss International Programs, will exhibit The 9/11 Series by New York artist Terence Netter, beginning with an opening reception Thursday, Oct. 6 at 4 p.m. Admission is free and Netter is scheduled to attend the event.
