Dr. Tom Lansford, academic dean and political science professor at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast, wrote the chapter “Mississippi District 4: A Conservative Democrat Loses to a More Conservative Republican,”in the edited volume The Roads to Congress 2010 by Sean D. Foreman and Robert Dewhirst.

But Dr. Kimberley Davis will achieve a goal long coveted by generations of musical artists when The University of Southern Mississippi faculty member performs as a guest soloist at world-renowned Carnegie Hall in New York City Feb. 19.

Just two weeks ago C-SPAN visited The University of Southern Mississippi as part of its Road to the White House 2012 bus tour. On Friday, the network that covers the nation’s political and legislative news returns to the Hattiesburg campus Friday, Nov. 18 to include a history class lecture as part of its programming.

According to United Nations figures, an estimated 2.5 million people around the world are in forced labor, including sexual exploitation, at any given time as a result of human trafficking. In an effort to shed light on this disturbing statistic, the Women’s and Gender Studies Program at The University of Southern Mississippi, partnered with Advocates for Freedom (AFF), will host a presentation of the film, "Sex + Money: A National Search for Human Worth” Nov. 21.

Last month, University of Southern Mississippi voice instructor Maryann Kyle won rave reviews for her performance of “Sondheim in the City” in New York City.

 

Now, the cabaret-style production that showcases the multi-talented Kyle comes home to Hattiesburg for its only in-state performance this year on Saturday, Nov. 19 at the Mannoni Performing Arts Center. Showtime is 7:30 p.m.

University of Southern Mississippi President Martha D. Saunders took home the prestigious Stevie Award for Women in Business presented annually to top executives worldwide during ceremonies held Friday, Nov. 11, in New York City.

Kappa Sigma Fraternity at The University of Southern Mississippi recently made a donation of $1,500 to the Pink Ribbon Fund, which provides financial support for women receiving treatment for breast cancer.
