Allisa Beck, collection management librarian at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast Library, has been named recipient of the Mary Ellen Alexander Lifetime Achievement Award. She was presented the annual award by the Long Beach Historical Society at their Jan. 9 reception.

The University of Southern Mississippi outranks all other state universities in popularity, according to a recent analysis conducted by U.S. News & World Report.

 

In the magazine’s ranking of more than 250 national universities, Southern Miss occupies the No. 43 spot, while Mississippi State comes in at No. 65 and Ole Miss resides at No. 127.

Dr. Ernest King, a professor of business ethics in The University of Southern Mississippi Department of Finance, Real Estate and Business Law, died Saturday, Jan. 28 at Wesley Medical Center in Hattiesburg. He was 52.

One of the Pine Belt’s most entertaining events is just around the corner, as the Southern Miss Coca Cola Rodeo returns to Forrest County’s James Lynn Cartlidge Multipurpose Center Feb. 17-18. The 27th edition of the event will be presented by The University of Southern Mississippi’s Department of Recreational Sports.
