The famed University of North Texas One’ O’Clock Jazz Lab Band will perform a special concert on Sunday, May 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Bennett Auditorium on The University of Southern Mississippi Hattiesburg campus. The public is invited and admission is free.

As health care management continues to rank as an important element in the world of health, University of Southern Mississippi graduates are excelling in the field with innovation and leadership. 

 

One such alumnus is Nathan Tudor, CEO of Otto Kaiser Memorial Hospital in Kennedy, Texas. Tudor’s position at the 25-bed, 140 employee Otto Kaiser Memorial is significant, but his roles with health management are equally important as he owns a track record of success and leadership.

Dr. Frances A. Karnes, Distinguished University Professor and director of the Frances A. Karnes Center for Gifted Studies at The University of Southern Mississippi, has been honored in the 2011-2012 National Association of Professional Women’s Legacy registry.  Karnes was honored for her standards of excellence in the field of gifted education, her extensive publications and community involvement.

Dr. Martha Saunders, president of The University of Southern Mississippi, announced today she is stepping down from that position effective June 30, 2012. She will return to the classroom as a member of the faculty at Southern Miss Gulf Coast this fall.

 

“After five of the most professionally enriching years of my career, I have decided to step down as president of The University of Southern Mississippi for personal reasons,” Saunders said. “It has been an honor to serve with you as we, together, have moved our beloved university forward to record enrollments, increased private giving and exciting new building projects. I believe I am leaving Southern Miss better than I found it and look forward to being a part of its future as a member of the faculty.”

State Sen. Willie Simmons (D-Cleveland), chairman of the Highway and Transportation Committee, will be the guest speaker at The University of Southern Mississippi Center for Logistics, Trade and Transportation’s Industry Advisory Council Summit. The event will be held in Long Beach May 17 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on the third floor of the Southern Miss Gulf Park Library.

The University of Southern Mississippi School of Human Performance and Recreation will offer its annual summer Learn to Drive Program June 4-22 on the Hattiesburg campus. Students can choose between morning and afternoon sessions, 8-11 a.m. and  noon-3 p.m.
