Dr. Diane Fisher, associate dean of the College of Education and Psychology and an associate professor of business technology at The University of Southern Mississippi, was honored as the 2012 Collegiate Teacher of the Year by the National Business Education Association at its annual convention in Boston April 3-7. The award was presented in recognition of outstanding contributions in teaching business.

Artists and authors who have enriched the lives of both young and old alike were honored Thursday at the 45^th annual Fay B. Kaigler Children’s Literature Festival on The University of Southern Mississippi Hattiesburg campus.

Jane Yolen, author of more than 300 books and winner of the coveted Caldecott Medal, was honored with the festival’s top honor, the Southern Miss Medallion.

One hundred years ago this week, the RMS Titanic, a state-of-the-art British ocean liner sailing on its maiden voyage, struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic and sunk. More than 1,500 passengers lost their lives in this catastrophic maritime incident that was the catalyst for a comprehensive international treaty addressing maritime operations.

The University of Southern Mississippi men’s a capella group, The Spirit of Southern (SOS), will host a memorial concert for Steffan Myers Friday, April 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Mannoni Performing Arts Center Auditorium on the Hattiesburg campus.
