Seatrout Population Enhancement Cooperative, a partnership among the University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast Research Laboratory (GCRL), the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources (DMR) and the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) of Mississippi since 2005, will release thousands of spotted seatrout fingerlings into the waters of Saint Louis Bay the week of Aug. 13-17 at Cedar Point Boat Launch, Bay St. Louis, Miss. and Merlin Necaise Boat Launch on the Wolf River.

The Division of Student Affairs at The University of Southern Mississippi recently received a $15,000 scholarship endowment from Comcast to benefit students within the division’s various departments/programs.

The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast will host fall 2012 orientation for new undergraduate students at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, in the Fleming Education Center at the Gulf Park campus in Long Beach. Registration and advisement for new undergraduate and new graduate students will be held from 2-6 p.m.

Ryan Hensarling, a doctoral student in the School of Polymers and High Performance Materials at The University of Southern Mississippi, has been accepted to attend the 14th Annual National School on Neutron and X-ray Scattering Aug. 12-25 in Argonne, Ill., and Oak Ridge, Tenn.

Jasmine Thomas, an elementary education major with endorsements in mathematics and social studies at The University of Southern Mississippi, recently received the Jo Anne J. Trow Scholarship Award. Thomas is the only recipient of the $1,000 scholarship this year in the state of Mississippi.

Students and faculty participating in The University of Southern Mississippi summer British Studies Program (BSP) typically learn about London’s past while visiting its venerable historic sites, including Big Ben and Westminster Abbey. But this year’s group also witnessed history in the making as the international city hosted the 2012 Summer Olympics, the first time for the city to host the games since 1948.
