It is no secret that young people thrive on sports, music and food. Thus, the University of Southern Mississippi campus provided the perfect atmosphere for a group of Oak Grove High students and AmeriCorps volunteers participating in National Disability Mentoring Day festivities.

Tickets for the highly anticipated University of Southern Mississippi School of Music production of Stephen Sondheim's Tony Award-winning, musical chiller Sweeney Todd begin public sale today, appropriately, Halloween Day. With only four performances, Feb. 28 - March 2 at 7:30 p.m. and March 3 at 2 p.m., the large-scale musical reopens the renovated Mannoni Performing Arts Center Auditorium. A sell-out is anticipated.

The University of Southern Mississippi will host a film viewing and panel discussion of “Freedom for Birth,” a 58-minute film that re-frames human rights as the most pressing issue in childbirth today. The event will be held on the Hattiesburg campus in the Liberal Arts Building’s Gonzales Auditorium (LAB 108) Thursday, Nov. 1 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

The University of Southern Mississippi Student Health Services Clinic is hosting FLU BOO! Wednesday, Oct. 31.  Students, faculty and staff are invited to celebrate Halloween by coming to trick or treat at the clinic, see its healthcare providers in costume and receive a flu shot. The clinic is located just north of Kennard-Washington Hall.

From gang member to renowned fashion designer, the story of Nary Manivong offers a testament to determination, perseverance and fortuitous timing.

 

Members of The University of Southern Mississippi community and the Pine Belt area at large will have a chance to learn more about Nary’s incredible journey during a screening of the documentary “Dressed” at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9 at Bennett Auditorium on the Hattiesburg campus.
