Dr. John Harsh, professor of psychology at The University of Southern Mississippi; Dr. Frances Karnes, distinguished professor and director of the Frances A. Karnes Center for Gifted Studies at Southern Miss, and Patrick Eiers, a graduate student in psychology at the university, recently had a article published in Parenting for High Potential titled Gifted Students and Sleep. The article includes findings regarding gifted students and sleep, along with practical suggestions to help them get enough sleep.

University of Southern Mississippi student Daniel Hinton, a senior chemistry major from Petal, Miss., has been accepted into a new program called “Chemistry Opportunities (CHOPs)" at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Chemistry Department.

The film program at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast presents "Smokin' Fish," with director and producer Luke Griswold-Tergis as part of the South Arts Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers. The screening will be held at Fleming Education Center Auditorium, Gulf Park campus in Long Beach on Friday, Nov. 16 at 6:45 p.m.

The National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) at The University of Southern Mississippi recently held a meeting with high school interscholastic athletic officials and security directors to plan and develop an educational and certification program for school safety and security personnel.

The University of Southern Mississippi’s Research Awards Day program and presentations will be held tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 9 in Ballroom I of the Thad Cochran Center on the Hattiesburg campus. Research Posters will be displayed in Ballroom II. The university community is invited to come and hear about the work of some of our most accomplished scientists, scholars, and artists.
