University of Southern Mississippi Provost Dr. Denis Wiesenburg has announced that David Sliman will become the University’s Chief Information Officer, effective Jan. 1, 2013.

Many Mississippians with disabilities once thought owning their own home was just a dream. In the past 15 years, 500 individuals with disabilities and their families have realized their dream of becoming homeowners through The University of Southern Mississippi Institute for Disability Studies’ Home of Your Own (HOYO) program.

 A fire reported shortly after midnight Tuesday damaged the interior of the building housing the Shafer Center for Crisis Intervention on The University of Southern Mississippi Hattiesburg campus. Hattiesburg Fire Department personnel extinguished the blaze soon after their arrival at about 12:30 a.m.

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), during its annual meeting in Dallas Dec. 8-11, informed The University of Southern Mississippi of its approval of the institution's Fifth-Year Interim Report.

 

SACSCOC is one of five regional accrediting organizations that have regularly conducted a comprehensive review of member institutions every 10 years.

The University of Southern Mississippi is mourning the loss of Dr. Clayton Sullivan, Professor Emeritus of Philosophy and Religion, who died Dec. 14.

It’s been the sage advice of many, but when Rick Cleveland’s father told him to follow his passion, he took it to heart.

 

Cleveland, executive director of the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum and a longtime sports reporter and columnist, shared that simple message as he gave the commencement address Friday, Dec. 14 at his alma mater, The University of Southern Mississippi.

The National Commission for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) has awarded The University of Southern Mississippi continued accreditation, affirming its teacher education programs meet the organization’s rigorous standards for excellence.
