Donate Life Mississippi honored The University of Southern Mississippi, its fans, alumni and students with a special presentation as winners of the inaugural Donor Challenge for 2012.

Thanks in part to a donation of approximately $10,000 worth of equipment from the University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast Research Laboratory’s (GCRL) Marine Education Center (MEC), Bel-Aire Elementary School in Gulfport is opening the only elementary science laboratory of its kind in the Harrison County School District.

The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast Libraries will host a book presentation with Joyce Shaw, coauthor of “Images of America – Ocean Springs,” on Tuesday, Feb. 5, from 3 – 5 p.m. in Room 204 of the Gulf Park campus Library in Long Beach.

University of Southern Mississippi marketing seniors Chelsea Thomas and Mikel Mangipano were part of a team that captured first place honors in the 2^nd Annual Startup Weekend competition held Jan. 18-20 in Jackson, Miss.
