Dr. Sarah Morgan, associate professor in the School of Polymers and High Performance Materials at The University of Southern Mississippi, has been awarded a $60,000 grant from the Ray C. Anderson Foundation that will be used in her continuing solar cells research.

SimMan, a fully computer-operated total body simulator used by University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast nursing faculty to bring more realism into replicated clinical settings for their students, was among the first to call the new 10,000 square foot Nursing Building on the Gulf Park campus in Long Beach home.

Environmental disasters, both manmade and natural, have prompted the need for improved, comprehensive understanding of the waters and resources of the Gulf of Mexico.

To that end, The University of Southern Mississippi has taken the lead role in formation of the new Center for Gulf Studies (CGS). The center represents a partnership between Southern Miss and the state’s other research universities – Mississippi State University, the University of Mississippi and Jackson State University.

Dr. Mohamed Elasri, associate professor of biological sciences at The University of Southern Mississippi, has been awarded a $439,000 grant by the National Institutes of Health to assist in his research of the staphylococcus aureus human pathogen.
