The Katrina Research Center at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast will host a premiere featuring the exhibit, “Psalm for Broken Bones: A Compendium” Thursday, Feb. 28 from 5 – 7:30 p.m. on the third floor of the library on the Gulf Park campus in Long Beach.

In honor of Black History Month, The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast Library will feature a special presentation by Jacqueline Dace, project director for the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum which is scheduled to open in Jackson in 2017. The presentation will be held Monday, Feb. 25 from 12 – 1 p.m. in the Hardy Hall Dining Room on the Gulf Park campus in Long Beach.

Children and visitors of the INFINITY Science Center in Hancock County will benefit greatly from a new agreement between the science center and The University of Southern Mississippi.

 

On Friday, Feb. 15, a memorandum of understanding was signed by Dr. Gordon Cannon, vice provost for research at Southern Miss, and George Schloegel, chairman of INFINITY, partnering both institutions to allow for greater educational opportunities.

The Center for Community and Civic Engagement at The University of Southern has joined several area agencies in providing a centralized location for those wishing to assist in relief efforts associated with the devastating tornado that struck Hattiesburg on Sunday, Feb. 10.

After the trials of the past week and the long journey to recovery ahead, The School of Music at The University of Southern Mississippi will proudly resume performances with the Award-winning Arabesque Winds in a free concert on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Connoisseur Series. With performance spaces at Southern Miss in ruins, First Presbyterian Church in Hattiesburg has offered its sanctuary to aid in the recovery.

The University of Southern Mississippi Institute for Disability Studies, in collaboration with the Mississippi Housing Partnership, will hold a homeownership application fair on Monday, Feb. 25 from 3 to 6 p.m. in the community meeting room of the Jackson Medical Mall at 350 West Woodrow Wilson in Jackson, Miss.
