In spreading awareness in October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, The University of Southern Mississippi recently produced a news story detailing the research of Dr. Rebecca Fillmore, assistant professor of biology, as she looks to research the gene believed to play a role in the development of breast cancer.

The Golden Eagle Battalion at The University of Southern Mississippi recently earned top honors at the Leadership Development and Assessment Course (LDAC).  Out of 39 universities within the 6th Brigade at LDAC, Southern Miss’ ROTC Cadets placed second, topping perennial rivals, including University of Mississippi, Mississippi State University, Auburn University, University of South Alabama, Tulane University and Louisiana State University.

A debate between The University of Southern Mississippi Forensics Society and the British National Debate Team will be held on the Hattiesburg campus Monday, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. in the Thad Cochran Center, Ballroom 1. This event is free and open to the public.

Dr. Bill Holcomb, associate professor and director of the Athletic Training Program at The University of Southern Mississippi School of Human Performance and Recreation, has been awarded Fellowship by the National Athletic Trainer’s Association (NATA).
