A new exhibit featuring the wood turning artistry of Dr. Shahdad Naghshpour is on display at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast Library in Long Beach.

The annual Security and Fire Safety compliance document is available on the University Police Department website at http://www.usm.edu/police. The website and booklet contain information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as crime prevention, fire safety, university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures and other matters of importance related to security and safety on campus.

The University of Southern Mississippi Police Department (UPD) can store bicycles used by students, faculty and staff on the Hattiesburg campus during the upcoming holiday break. The drop-off period is December 3-12 from 9 - 11 a.m. and 1-4 p.m. at the UPD offices in Bond Hall, located next to the parking garage.

Freddie White-Johnson, program director of the Mississippi Network for Cancer Control and Prevention (MNCCP) at The University of Southern Mississippi, has been recognized as a 2013 Rural Health Champion by the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Chronicling her experience of relocating from New Mexico to living on her family’s farm in the Mississippi Delta, the photographic exhibit, “Into the Flatland” by Kathleen Robbins, is now on display at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park campus in Long Beach.

The Hattiesburg Zoo’s newest tenant is the featured attraction in its golden eagle exhibit, the result of a partnership formed with University of Southern Mississippi alumni, students and friends.

 

An effort to bring a golden eagle to Hattiesburg was initiated by the Southern Miss Alumni Association more than two years ago and supported by the Student Government Association and USM Foundation. Together, the groups contributed $70,000 to fund the construction of a habitat at the Zoo for the golden eagle.

The Sertoma Club of Hattiesburg presented at gift of $20,000 to The DuBard School for Language Disorders at The University of Southern Mississippi during a special ceremony held Thursday, Nov. 21 at the school.

Dr. John Calvin Berry, a retired University of Southern Mississippi associate professor of educational leadership and research, died Nov. 10 in Hattiesburg. He was 88.

The University of Southern Mississippi will usher in the holiday season with the annual “Lighting the Way of the Holidays” and “Songfest” celebrations in early December.

 

 “Lighting the Way for the Holidays” is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3 near the main entrance to the Hattiesburg campus, while “Songfest” is set for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5 at Reed Green Coliseum. Both events are free and open to the public.
