A University of Southern Mississippi Department of Psychology graduate student is soliciting participants for her research on the impacts of autism.

Elizabeth Fair, a doctoral student in clinical psychology from Mobile, Ala., is examining processing styles in children and adolescents with autism, including how they process information and how that relates to various behaviors and symptoms of autism.

A new accessible playground for both disabled and able-bodied children and adults is now available to the community at The University of Southern Mississippi’s Gulf Park campus in Long Beach. The playground, developed by the university’s Technology Learning Center (TLC), was dedicated Dec. 4 after a donation of $21,000 was made by the Lions Clubs International Foundation to purchase equipment for the facility.

The University of Southern Mississippi will hold two commencement ceremonies at Reed Green Coliseum on its Hattiesburg campus Friday, Dec. 13. Approximately 1,100 students are candidates for degrees this fall.

State Supreme Court Justice James W. Kitchens will speak to graduates at the 10 a.m. commencement, which will be followed by the 2:30 p.m. ceremony featuring a keynote address by State Supreme Court Justice Randy G. Pierce. Both are Southern Miss graduates.

The Trent Lott National Center at The University of Southern Mississippi, in partnership with the Stennis Institute at Mississippi State University, will host an inaugural workshop titled, “Basic Community Economic Development: Practical Tools for Elected Officials” on Wednesday, Dec. 11 on the Hattiesburg campus.
