Economic trends and forecasts will take center stage during the Economic Outlook 2014 symposium set for Thursday, Jan. 23 at the Thad Cochran Center on The University of Southern Mississippi’s Hattiesburg campus.

The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park campus in Long Beach will host a Comparative Cognition and Communication meeting featuring a presentation by Dr. Vincent Janik of the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. Focusing on the communication of bottlenose dolphins, the event will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10 in Hardy Hall 316.

In celebrating the rich history and culture of the Mississippi Delta, The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast invites the community to events featuring a roundtable discussion and musical presentation. “From the Flatlands to the Coast: Bringing the Mississippi Delta to the Mississippi Gulf Coast” will be held Jan. 30-31 at the university’s Gulf Park campus in Long Beach and the Mary C. O’Keefe Cultural Center in Ocean Springs, respectively.

The DuBard School for Language Disorders at The University of Southern Mississippi will host a comprehensive Multisensory Math: Using Manipulative Objects to Teach the Common Core course on Feb. 6-7 at the Lake Terrace Convention Center in Hattiesburg, Miss.

The Mu Gamma Alpha chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. will host the 8th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Interracial and Ecumenical Prayer Breakfast Monday, Jan. 20 beginning at 7:30 a.m. in the Thad Cochran Center Ballrooms on The University of Southern Mississippi’s Hattiesburg campus.

The University of Southern Mississippi Forensics Society recently competed in the Red River Swing Tournament (two tournaments in one weekend) at Louisiana State University – Shreveport. The tournament is 39 years old, and the field of competition included 26 colleges and universities. Eight students represented Southern Miss at the tournament.
