The University of Southern Mississippi’s Department of Nutrition and Food Systems recently hosted a group of college students from St. Norbert College in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

The trip was part of St. Norbert’s T.R.I.P.S. (Turning Responsibility into Powerful Service) program. This is the second year the service outreach program visited the department. Their initial visit was inspired by research published by the College of Health and an article highlighting its influence in the state’s fight against obesity.

Dr. Carrie Walker, a nuclear physicist and graduate of The University of Southern Mississippi’s Honors College who has worked with the world-renowned Los Alamos National Laboratories, will present “Nuclear Energy: A Global Landscape in Change” Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 6:30 p.m. in Wilbur Stout Hall room A on the Hattiesburg campus.

Dr. Gentry McCreary, associate dean of students at the University of West Florida, will present “The Impact of Moral Judgment and Moral Disengagement on Hazing Attitudes and Bystander Behavior in College Males” Wednesday, March 5 at The University of Southern Mississippi’s Hattiesburg campus. This free event will be from 5:15-6:15 p.m. in room 105 of Owings-McQuagge Hall, and is open to the university community.

The University of Southern Mississippi’s Office of Sustainability is sponsoring Recyclethon, with competition ongoing through March 28. Recyclethon is a competition between students, faculty, and staff to see who can recycle the most items by weight within a four-week period, with weights entered into the RecycleMania competition.
