Shelia Varnado, former executive director of Recover, Rebuild, Restore South Mississippi (R3SM), and University of Southern Mississippi President Emeritus Aubrey K. Lucas stand in front of the Lucas/Varnado Volunteer House Tuesday, March 25 after the facility was dedicated in their honor. Located on Buschman Street in historic downtown Hattiesburg, the Lucas/Varnado House provides space for the agency’s administrative offices and housing for volunteers who come to the area to participate in community service initiatives.

Dr. Allan Eickelmann, instructor of philosophy and religion at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast, will give a guest lecture titled “The Gift of Homosexuality: A Postmodern Christian Perspective” Thursday, March 27 from 11:45 a.m. – 12: 30 p.m. in Lloyd Hall room 103 on the university’s Gulf Park campus in Long Beach.

The Department of Theatre at The University of Southern Mississippi routinely offers exciting theatric productions performed by tomorrow’s stars of stage, film, television and recording. These students hone their talents under the careful and thoughtful tutelage of outstanding professors at Southern Miss. One of these professors is Robin Carr.

The University of Southern Mississippi Department of Theatre continues its Spring 2014 season with Picnic by William Inge. All performances will take place in the Hartwig Theatre of the Theatre and Dance Building at Southern Miss. Performances are on March 28, 29 and April 3, 4, 5 at 7:30 p.m. and March 30 at 2 p.m.
