The School of Music at Southern Miss has released tickets for Showbiz Showstoppers, a one-night-only spectacular featuring show-stopping numbers from some of Broadway’s best musicals.

 

A talented cast of students, alumni and community members are already in rehearsals for the April 11 performance, which begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Lake Terrace Convention Center in Hattiesburg, Miss.

“Changing America: The Emancipation Proclamation, 1863, and the March on Washington, 1963,” a traveling exhibition opening at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast’s Evelyn Gandy Cultural Center on Monday, March 24, examines the relationship between two great people's movements that resulted in the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, and the March on Washington in 1963.

The Mississippi Academy of Sciences will hold its 78th annual meeting March 6-7 at the Lake Terrace Convention Center in Hattiesburg, with The University of Southern Mississippi serving as one of the event’s sponsors. Several Southern Miss faculty members are serving as chairs and vice-chairs of the Academy’s 13 divisions, as well as making oral and poster presentations along with students from the university.

Local artists and crafts vendors are invited to be part of the Southern Miss Jazz and Blues Festival on Saturday, April 19 at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park campus in Long Beach.

Teams from The University of Southern Mississippi’s Gulf Park campus, as well as local community colleges, recently continued their tradition of competing in the university’s annual Scholars Bowl. This year, the Sigma Tau Delta Turtles were named the winning team to receive the 2014 Golden Eagle Trophy, which allowed the trophy and title to return home to the Gulf Park campus after Pearl River Community College took home the prize in 2013.

During the Mississippi Alpha Network District Conference held in Greenville, Miss. Jan. 23-26, the Mu Xi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity at The University of Southern Mississippi was recognized for its achievements with numerous awards, including the highly sought Chapter of the Year Award.
