The College of Arts and Letters at the University of Southern Mississippi will launch its newly redesigned web site for The Arts Friday, Aug. 14. The new site is a one-stop shop for the latest events in the School of Music, Department of Art and Design and Department of Theatre and Dance.
Relying on traditional methods of communication with potential audience members for many years, the college set out in the spring of 2009 to rethink their approach.
“We know from our own research that many potential and new patrons are more likely to turn to the Web or social networking sites for information and suggestions about arts and cultural events,” said Dr. Denise von Herrmann, dean of the College of Arts and Letters.
The new site features streamlined navigation and event-focused content, highlighting a new arts event every week. For instance, users can find an event, look at seating charts and order tickets without ever leaving the site. Users can instantly access video clips, calendar feeds and exclusive, behind-the-scenes footage of their favorite arts events.
“Whether you are a regular patron or are just curious about what’s available, the site is simple enough for the Internet novice, yet has sophisticated tools and content to appeal to the Web-savvy art enthusiast,” said von Herrmann.
In addition to improved technical features, the eye-catching graphic design and layout of the site reflect the creative spirit of the arts.
