The University of Southern Mississippi men’s A Capella group, The Spirit of Southern, will host a memorial concert for Steffan Myers Monday, April 19 in Bennett Auditorium on the Hattiesburg campus.

Myers, a junior from Laurel, Miss. and former member of the group, passed away in January. The concert will include the Spirit of Southern repertoire; a tribute reading of Steffan’s life; student reflections; and recognition and appreciation of the Myers family.

“Steffan was a big part of us this year and we hope to have a great night in celebration of his short time with us,” said John Flanery, director of The Spirit of Southern Men’s A Capella Group. “This has been a very difficult time for the entire ensemble. But as a group they have really pulled together and want to do this concert for Steffan and his family and friends.”

Jonathan Brannan, a member of The Spirit of Southern, describes Meyers as “an awesome guy who had an impact on everyone he met.”

The ensemble created the Steffan Myers Spirit of Southern Scholarship in his honor. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted, with proceeds going to a memorial scholarship created in Myers honor to be available to a Southern Miss student in fall 2010.

The concert will begin at 7 p.m. at Bennett Auditorium and is open to the public. Admission is free. For more information, contact John Flanery at 601.266.6931 or e-mail This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it
