WHAT: “Balancing Safety, Security and Spectator Experience” national conference and expo conducted by the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) at the University of Southern Mississippi.

SPECIFICS:  For the first time in the United States, a National Sports Safety and Security Conference and Exhibition is being held, focusing solely on the sports security and safety industry. This gathering of top professionals in the field will provide an environment dedicated to security/safety technologies, products, services and education all aimed toward safeguarding the assets and spectators they are charged with protecting.

Among the expert speakers are United States Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Russel Honore’ (Ret) and London Olympics Security Director Keith Still, Ph.D.

Media Guidelines & Logistics

APPLYING FOR CREDENTIALS

National Sports Safety and Security credentials are required for media covering any or all events within the Conference and Exhibition at the Astor Crowne Plaza in New Orleans Monday, Aug. 2, 2010 – Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2010.

The credentialing process is open through Friday, July 30, 2010. No credentials will be processed after the close of business on July 30.  If you have questions about media access to the National Sports Safety and Security Conference and Exhibition, please contact University Communications, at 601.266.4491.

To obtain credentials, a written request on the news or trade media organization’s letterhead must be faxed to the Office of University Communications at 601.266.5347. Freelance journalists requesting credentials must provide a written request on letterhead from the assigning media outlet. All requests should be faxed attn: National Sports Safety and Security Conference and Exhibition Credentials.

CREDENTIAL PICK-UP

Credentials may be picked up – with photo ID – beginning on Monday, Aug. 2. Pick-up times are as follows:

Monday, Aug. 2  1 – 3:30 p.m.

Tuesday, Aug. 3  7 – 11 a.m.

Wednesday, Aug.  4  7 – 10 a.m.

MEDIA AREA

Only credentialed media will be allowed onto presentations and panel discussions. A Media Room is available for working journalists on the Level M 2 of the Hotel in the Bourbon  Room.

The room is equipped with wireless internet access and work areas. This Media Room will be used for a joint interview opportunity with Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell following the conference opening session on Aug. 2. It will also be used for the interview opportunity following the luncheon speech by Lt. Gen. Russel L. Honore’ on Aug. 4.

ALL MEDIA

An electronic Media Kit is available on-line for your convenience. It consists of: 1) conference agenda, 2) biographical information on key speakers and panel members, 3) information on the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security, 4)
information on The University of Southern Mississippi, and 5) previously generated news releases on the national conference. The information is located at http://www.ncs4.com/conference.php.

At the request of conference speakers, photographs and video may only be shot during the first 15 minutes of each presentation. No media questions will be accepted in the question and answer session following each presentation. Members of the media with credentials will be allowed to ask questions in the interview opportunities following the speeches of Janet Napolitano, Roger Goodell, and Russel Honore’. Questions with other presenters may be arranged through conference staff.

There will be no media representatives allowed in the 4 – 4:45 p.m. presentation (Professional Sports Panel: Crowd Management Case Studies) on Tuesday, Aug. 3, or the 11:15 – 12:15 p.m. presentation (Panel: Is it Possible to Achieve the “Balance”) on Wednesday, Aug. 4.

Failure to abide by these requirements will result in the revocation of credentials.
