An impressive array of speakers has been assembled for the inaugural Sports Security Video Management Industry Day set for Wednesday, June 30 at the Science Applications International Corporation McLean Conference Center in McLean, Va.

The event is being sponsored by The National Center for Spectator Sports Safety (NCS4) and Security at The University of Southern Mississippi.

The Industry Day event will provide an opportunity for sports security professionals and leading video vendors to convene and exchange perspectives on the evolving needs and capabilities of video management systems and solutions relevant to spectator venue operations.

“With the threats that arise in today’s world, we must continually assess and leverage technologies and best practices to protect our constituents,” said Tom Clancy, president of electronic systems integrator Acree Daily and one of the Industry Day speakers. “Regular sharing of ideas and observations like the upcoming Industry Day, and the work of NCS4, help facilitate knowledge transfer throughout the security profession.”

The program begins at 9 a.m. with a welcome and introduction by NCS4 Director Dr. Lou Marciani. Scheduled speakers include Clancy, Bob Waldhuber, manager, access control and electronic security programs at Penn State University; Larry Barfield, co-founder and CEO of xpt2 and Ed Burke, director of security for the Washington Redskins.

Attendees will also have an opportunity to visit vendor displays from some of the country’s top security companies as well as learn more about the National Sports Security Laboratory at NCS4.

Key areas of interest to be addressed during the Industry Day event include person screening functions, venue access management and perimeter video surveillance that support deterrence, detection and forensic analysis objectives, and video technology for crowd management adjacent to and within a venue.

“It really excites me to be involves in this event,” said Burke, who has been with the Redskins organization since 2001. “Although I’m on the agenda as a speaker, my hope is to learn as much as possible from other security experts on hand. There are so many new advancements in security technology, very innovative ideas, and we want to stay abreast of those.”
