Sixteen new students became part of a specialized learning environment as the DuBard School for Language Disorders at The University of Southern Mississippi began the 2010-11 academic year on Wednesday, Aug. 4.
Students from several cities and communities in the surrounding area will comprise this year’s class which numbers a capacity of 80.
“Every new school year brings hope – hope for the children and their families,” said DuBard School Director Dr. Maureen Martin. “It is a privilege for us, at the DuBard School to have the opportunity to provide services to children and to contribute to preparing them for adult lives which are productive and independent.”
The DuBard School for Language Disorders was established in 1962 and is a clinical division of the Southern Miss Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences. The school serves children with severe language/speech disorders and/or hearing impairments and provides guidance and counseling for parents and families of the children. The school is a practicum site for university students majoring in speech-language pathology, audiology, or deaf education. For more information visit www.usm.edu/dubard/
