A University of Southern Mississippi student was found dead today in his apartment in Hattiesburg.

Joshua Stephenson, 29, was a junior general studies major from Corinth, Miss. and a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces. The Hattiesburg Police Department is investigating the case.

Stephenson was a student in Southern Miss assistant geography professor Dr. David Cochran’s conservation and natural resources class. Cochran also served as Stephenson’s academic advisor.

“He was a really attentive student, asked a lot of questions in class and had a great attitude,” Cochran said. “My thoughts and prayers are with his family.”
