The Katrina Research Center at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast will host an archival training workshop on basic preservation and digitization Thursday, May 20 at 9 a.m. in the library at the Gulf Park campus in Long Beach.

This workshop, for small to mid-size organizations maintaining historical materials, will provide essential information about collections acquisition, evaluation, processing, access and preservation. Each participant will receive a notebook of forms and helpful information.

Space is limited and registration for the workshop must be received by May 13. The total cost for registration is $20 and checks must be made payable to LAMA. Registration can be mailed to the Katrina Research Center, 730 East Beach Blvd., Long Beach, MS 39560.

The workshop, sponsored by a grant project from the Institute for Museum and Library Services, establishes a sustainable program of archival training opportunities for staff and volunteers working in historical repositories in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.
