Longtime University of Southern Mississippi accounting Professor Roderick Posey took home the prestigious Educator of the Year Award at the annual convention of the Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants held June 27 in Sandestin, Fla.
The Mississippi organization considers accounting educators from all of the state’s institutions of higher learning in bestowing this honor. Posey, a former director of the School of Accountancy at Southern Miss, has been a member of the university’s faculty since 1979.
“I feel wonderful and humbled by it,” said Posey. “To me, it says that all the effort I’ve put in over the years has been recognized. I think it’s also important to thank all of my students over the years who had a hand in my receiving this award.
“This really puts a crown on top of my career.”
Posey, a Hot Coffee, Miss., native, has authored more than 100 published articles related to accounting issues. In 2007 he received the Outstanding Faculty Award in the Southern Miss College of Business.
Dr. Skip Hughes, new director of the Southern Miss School of Accountancy, was on hand to see Posey collect the coveted state award.
“It was not only a great day for Rod Posey, but a great day for the School of Accountancy at USM,” said Hughes.
