The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast Civic Chorale, featuring more than 80 singers from across the Gulf Coast, will celebrate the holiday season with two free concerts featuring the Coronation Mass in C by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

The first concert will be Friday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. in the Advanced Education Center auditorium of the Southern Miss Gulf Park campus in Long Beach. The encore performance will be Sunday, Dec. 13 at 2 p.m. in the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Biloxi.

The concerts, titled “Begin the Celebration,” will feature chamber orchestra accompaniment during the Coronation Mass in C performance. In addition to the feature performance, the chorale will perform traditional holiday songs.

The chorale, in its 15th year at Southern Miss, is under the direction of John Flanery. Serving as a community outreach program for the university, the ensemble meets once each week for rehearsal and performs a wide variety of choral literature throughout the year.
