Three University of Southern Mississippi students are getting hands-on accounting experience this summer as interns in the state auditor’s office.

Analise Counts is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in accounting, while Breanne Hancock and Laura McGarrh are recent graduates who received degrees in accounting last May. The interns are working in the Financial and Compliance Audit Division.

“Despite the current economy, the Office of the State Auditor is committed to providing internship opportunities to recent college graduates and students,” said State Auditor Stacey Pickering.

Counts, a Mobile, Ala., native, is the daughter of Andrew and Lisa Counts. She is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies, Beta Alpha Psi accounting fraternity and Delta Gamma sorority. She received the Haddox, Reid, Burkes and Calhoun Outstanding Senior Award and plans to graduate in December.

Hancock, a Raleigh native, is the daughter of Jimmy and Connie Hancock. She graduated Magna Cum Laude, served as vice president of Southern Miss’ Beta Alpha Psi Chapter and is a Chi Omega alumna. She will begin pursuing a Master of Professional Accounting degree at Southern Miss this fall.

McGarrh, a Vicksburg native, is the daughter of Billy and Joni McGarrh. She is a member of Beta Alpha Psi honor society and Delta Delta Delta sorority. She was a Lucky Day scholar and received the Accounting Faculty Award at Southern Miss.
