The College of Health and Recreational Sports at The University of Southern Mississippi is sponsoring "Fit Over 50: Exercise and Healthy Aging" in recognition of Healthy Aging® Month.

Community members age 50 and older are invited to bring a sack lunch and listen to a presentation by Jerry Purvis, School of Human Performance and Recreation professor, and Susan Bone, assistant director of wellness for Recreational Sports. The event begins at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, and a beverage and dessert will be provided.

"With individuals living longer, it is vital for them to maintain a quality of life, the foundation of which is good health and functional fitness that allows for normal activities and for individuals to maintain an independent lifestyle," said Dr. Susan Hubble-Burchell, interim director of the School of Human Performance and Recreation

September is Healthy Aging® Month, an annual observance designated by Educational Television Network, Inc. to focus national attention on the positive aspects of growing older through the encouragement of local level Healthy Aging events.

For more information about this event, call 601.266.5655 or 601.266.5367.
