HATTIESBURG, Miss. – In recognition of Global Entrepreneurship Week (Nov. 16-22), The University of Southern Mississippi Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) organization is sponsoring a “Business Creation Station” symposium Monday, Nov. 16 in Room 216 of the Thad Cochran Center.

The panel discussion, set to begin at 5 p.m., will feature representatives from several Hattiesburg area agencies who will discuss the services that they provide to new-business start-ups. The free event is open to students, faculty, staff and the general public.

“Really, anybody in the community would benefit from this discussion,” said Jennifer Sequeira, associate professor in the Department of Management and International Business at Southern Miss. “We’ve even invited various high school students to participate. Students can use this opportunity to learn about the basics of starting a business, as well as gain some networking insight.”

SIFE (www.sife.org) is a non-profit organization that works with leaders in business and higher education to mobilize university students to make a difference in their communities while developing the skills to become socially responsible business leaders. Participating students form teams on their university campuses and apply business concepts to develop outreach projects that improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in need.

Sequeira serves as the faculty advisor for the Southern Miss SIFE organization which includes approximately 15 students from different majors. Sequeira said the Southern Miss group adheres to six underlying principles as a student-based service organization: entrepreneurship, market economics, success skills, financial literacy, environmental sustainability and business ethics.
