The magical Midsummer Musical Theatre Experience (MMTE) has returned for its sixth season at The University of Southern Mississippi.
Children ages 9-14 can now register for the two-week musical theatre summer camp, which is scheduled for June 14-26 on the Hattiesburg campus.
Sponsored by the School of Music and Department of Theatre and Dance, the camp will offer vocal coaching, composition classes, set and costume instruction, dance and acting training for youths. Camp tuition is $325 per student and need-based scholarships are available.
The experience will culminate with the production of “Welcome to Bedside Manor,” produced by Robin Carr, assistant professor of voice and acting and Dr. Jennifer Shank, associate professor of music.
“MMTE is an educational experience involving creative learning that culminates in a full theatrical production complete with music, costumes and sets,” Shank explained. “It’s a show that children, parents and grandparents will enjoy together.”
Tickets for each show are $5 at the door of Woods Theatre.
“We always have a wonderful time and grow every year with our number of campers who participate,” Carr said. “It always is an amazing opportunity to be a part of creating a production with young performers. “Welcome to Bedside Manor” is a toe-tapping romp is filled with music that is so contagious, everyone will leave the show humming a tune while the hysterical staff and patients are bound to leave your audience almost dying with laughter.”
