Southern Miss Student Killed in Sunday Morning Auto Accident PDF Print E-mail

Myles Sterling Henderson, 20, a University of Southern Mississippi Honors College student from Harahan, La. died in a one-vehicle automobile accident in the early morning hours of Sunday, June 13 in Pearl River County.

A visitation from 6-9 p.m., including a memorial service at 7 p.m., will both be held Thursday, June 17 at Garden of Memories Funeral Home in Metairie, La., located at 4900 Airline Dr. in Metairie. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name c/o 2010 Generes Dr., New Orleans, LA 70123. Condolences can be offered online at

A graduate of Brother Martin High School in New Orleans, Henderson was a junior speech communication major and a Leadership and Academic Excellence Scholar at Southern Miss. He was a Student Government Association (SGA) senator, residence hall assistant, a member of the Varsity Cheer Squad and the Student Athlete Advisory Council.

“This is devastating. Myles was one of those people who really lit up a room when he walked in.” said SGA President Kasey Mitchell. “He had a sincere heart and made a positive impact on so many people in the short time he was here at Southern Miss. Our prayers go out to his family and friends.’
