Sixth Annual Passions of the Palette Event Set for April 12 PDF Print E-mail

Dinner, art and the blues will be on the menu for the 6th Annual Passions of the Palette fundraiser set for 5:30 p.m., Monday, April 12 at the Lake Terrace Convention Center in Hattiesburg.

The popular tasting dinner and silent auction is sponsored by the Department of Casino, Hotel & Tourism Management at The University of Southern Mississippi. Proceeds from the event are used to help students in this major with scholarships and professional development opportunities.

The marquee chefs and artists for the gala evening include the following:

• Elizabeth Heiskell is the lead chef of the Viking Cooking School. Heiskell began her culinary career at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y. She has prepared foods for such notables as the Duchess of York, former Vice President Al Gore and a host of Mississippi governors.

• Sheila Gourlay is the 2002 winner of the Mississippi Institute of Arts & Letters Visual Arts Award for “Rooted #6.” Award recipients characterize the diverse creative talents of Mississippians and the artistic heritage of the state.

• Alfonso Sanders is an accomplished saxophonist who was the 2nd-place solo/duo winner of the 2008 International Blues Challenge in Memphis. Sanders, chair of Fine Arts and director of the B.B. King Recording Studio at Mississippi Valley State University, has performed at many recognized jazz festivals worldwide.
