A Hattiesburg man was arrested today shortly after he was spotted by a University of Southern Mississippi police officer allegedly attempting to break into a food kiosk in Joseph Greene Hall.

David E. Jackson, 32, of 607 N. 25th Avenue, was arrested by University Police officers this morning near the university’s Jazz Studio on Hardy Street following a foot chase from the scene. Jackson, who is not a Southern Miss student, is currently being held in Forrest County Regional Jail on a charge of burglary, and could face additional charges of burglary based on recent reports of similar activity in the same vicinity.

The University Police Department asks members of the campus community to report any suspicious activity by calling 601.266.4986; for emergencies, dial 911. In some cases, a reward may be made to those with information that leads to arrests in criminal cases.
