WHAT: The University of Southern Mississippi will host a dedication ceremony for the Advanced Education Center on the Gulf Park campus. The building will be named for the university’s seventh president, Dr. Horace W. Fleming.
WHERE: Advanced Education Center auditorium, Southern Miss Gulf Park campus in Long Beach
WHEN: Friday, April 23 at 3 p.m.
SPECIFICS: Fleming, who died in May 2009, served as president of Southern Miss from 1997-2001. During his tenure, Fleming achieved many accomplishments, but most notably was the development of freshman and sophomore courses at the university’s Gulf Park campus.
In October of 2000, the university broke ground for the $13.3 million construction project that included both the Advanced Education Center and library at the Gulf Park campus. The Advanced Education Center features 20 regular classrooms, four computer laboratories, two interactive video network rooms, a conference room and a 500-seat auditorium.
