The University of Southern Mississippi’s Pride of Mississippi Marching Band and Dixie Darlings are $50,000 closer to reaching their fundraising goal to attend the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2010.  Lawrence and Bonnie Warren of Hattiesburg, longtime supporters of the university, are now the lead donors in the fundraising campaign for the trip.

Bonnie was a captain for the Dixie Darlings from 1959-1963. The Warrens hope The Pride and Dixie Darlings will enjoy continued success and national exposure in the years to come.

"It is because of special people like Mr. and Mrs. Warren that the Southern Miss dream of having The Pride of Mississippi in the 2010 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will become a reality," said director of The Pride of Mississippi, Mohamad Schuman.

With a little over a year to prepare, The Pride must raise between $300,000 and $325,000 to fund their journey to New York City for the renowned parade.

One of the main fundraisers this year will be the annual Prism Concert to be held at the Lake Terrace Convention Center Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. This year-end music celebration will feature The Pride of Mississippi and studio ensembles with special guest appearances, including one by Santa Claus. A diamond giveaway from Parris Jewelers will also take place at the event

All proceeds from the concert will go to support The Pride of Mississippi’s trip. Tickets are $10. To order, visit or call 601.266.5418. To support The Pride’s journey to Macy’s in 2010, visit For more information on The Pride, visit
