GCRL to Host Evening with Award-winning Nature Photographer PDF Print E-mail

The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast Research Laboratory (GCRL) will host an evening with award-winning nature photographer Tom Ulrich at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, in GCRL’s Caylor Auditorium.


The 70-minute wildlife photography presentation will feature Ulrich’s work from the past year, with a focus on hummingbirds of Ecuador, the Pantanal of Brazil, Glacier National Park, and animals of North America.

Ulrich grew up in South Chicago, graduated with a degree in biology from Southern Illinois University and taught biology for four years before launching his career as a freelance photographer. He has supported himself with nature photography for more than 35 years. 


His library of more than 800,000 images includes birds and mammals from all over the world. His photographs have been featured in publications such as National Wildlife, Audubon, National Geographic, and Montana Outdoors. He has published seven nature books.

The GCRL is home to the university's Department of Coastal Sciences, the Center for Fisheries Research and Development, the Thad Cochran Marine Aquaculture Center and GCRL’s Marine Education Center. The GCRL is part of the Southern Miss College of Science and Technology.
