For the sixth straight year, Noetic Technologies will reward budding inventors from Mississippi and the surrounding region with cash prizes.
Entries are now being accepted for the Invent Your Future (IYF) competition which features a total of $20,000 in cash awards, as well as valuable in-kind prizes. The deadline for entry submissions is March 19, 2010. Finalists will be selected for the live competition on April 27, 2010.
Invent Your Future serves as a launching point for many inventors and has led to the formation of several new companies, resulting in more than $450,000 of cumulative research funding in the Hattiesburg area.
“We are extremely eager about this year’s competition,” said Les Goff, president and CEO of Noetic. “Every year we are impressed with how the creativity, fun and excitement of the competition improve upon previous years. This year should be no exception.”
For the first time the live competition will be staged in The Accelerator, the flagship building in The Garden, the University of Southern Mississippi’s new innovation and commercialization park. Final contenders will be given the opportunity to make a 10-minute presentation followed by five minutes of questions from a panel of three external judges who will choose the winners.
“We are excited about this new venue because it will allow our finalists to interact with the thriving startup companies located in The Accelerator,” said Kelli Booth, vice-president of marketing for Noetic. “They can see firsthand what opportunities are available to assist in the commercialization of their inventions.”
Located in downtown Hattiesburg, Noetic Technologies is the commercial and marketing company of the Southern Miss Research Foundation that manages intellectual property and business development.
The IYF competition is open to four categories of participants:
1. College students (undergraduate or graduate) and faculty, or any team combination of students and/or faculty members
2. Individual entrepreneurs, or any team of entrepreneurs with no company formed to date
